His determination to deny and disprove the entire existence of witches nothwithstanding, it's clear to him now that the world of magic has its own rules and laws he knows nothing about, and all these people calling themselves witches seem to abide by them. Whether it's a shared delusion or a group storytelling exercise is irrelevant, and so is his belief in it; they seem to believe, and that's precisely why he feels he ought to find out more about it, just on the off chance that it might give him an edge in this fight, however small. ]

That depends. The simplest way is for another witch to acknowledge that you've ascended beyond the human level of existence. Of course, that doesn't mean it's the easiest way. You would have to have done something truly impressive to get a witch's attention in the first place.
