[Was that dig really necessary- of course it was, it's Eva.]
I reached out to a few of my contacts here. Don't be afraid to get in touch with them when you get yourself into trouble, okay?
Jinguuji Ren-san's my housemate. I gave you the address already, right? He bartends at Shining Karaoke, if you need somewhere to go in a pinch. Don't worry, I've already told him you're too young to drink.
[It wasn't a romantic arrangement, but hopefully Battler would know better than to imply something like that either way- and whilst she hadn't actually mentioned Battler's age to Ren, just gonna be discouraging him underage drinking!]
Hijikata Toshirou-san used to work for the law enforcement here leading a supernatural unit called SPOON, but these days they've broken off to work independently.
Kirstein Jean-san owns a forge/gunsmith place called Volcanus with his sister (can't speak for her, we've only met in passing). He and Hijikata-san are pretty reliable for quests, they've got a lot of experience fighting.
Delivery, Christmas time (Chapter 3 Spoilers)
You know, just in case he gets himself into danger!
As well as the slightly patronising Christmas message from Eva, there's another little letter slipped in: ]
We should talk. Have you been to the Flower Yards yet? Come to the Winter one tomorrow at 3pm.
It gets pretty chilly, but I'm sure you've got something warm you can wear, right?
[A note that wasn't from Eva herself, but from the little witch that lived within her. Was she dealing with Battler's Piece, or the Game Master? The best chance she had of subtly finding that out was to try and bait him out wearing his signature cloak... but she couldn't be sure it would work.]

Speaking of guessing, it takes a little bit of trial and error, but he eventually manages to write and send a reply. ]
Hey, Aunt Eva,
Thanks for the message. I’m settling in okay; for being a fantasy world full of magic, this place is not really all that different from our own, right? The city, at least. I’ve had a peek into the segments once or twice, but only very briefly. I’m sticking to Nightwake for now.
Thanks for all the contacts, too. I’ve written it all down, and I’ll go and introduce myself soon. Hopefully I won’t need people to bail me out of trouble anytime soon, but better safe than sorry, right?
Speaking of quests and fighting, I had a look at the quest board, and an awful lot of them seem to involve fighting some creatures. Do you guys — you and your friends, I mean, and I guess people here in general — do that a lot? [ He hesitates over this next question for a good couple minutes — it sounds so childish — but eventually he decides to leave it in. ] Don’t you ever get scared?

[ It reads like a letter — a little stilted, a little awkward — the kind of letter a boy might write to an aunt he’s friendly with. He’s not a kid anymore, at least in his own eyes, but Eva will always be his aunt, and here, in this weird world, she’s the only familiar person he can turn to — and so he does, awkward feelings be damned. ]
